Purity was so rattled that she hardly perceived what began to happen. The fear feeling overtook her again, but she was lost in thoughts. The world darkened, but she looked within. The screaming room became a thunder, but her ears grew muffled. The thing lurked behind her, but she looked towards the floor.
Witch Town, Part 6
Esda puts her hand out to the water and touches it.
Margaret notices the puddle ripple from the contact.
Esda then reaches her hand into the water.
Margaret is amazed to see Esda’s hand coming out of the puddle.
Esda jerks her hand back, unsure.
Margaret crawls back towards the puddle to have a cautious second look.
Esda and Margaret stare at each other in awe for a moment. Esda smiles first, then Margaret finds herself smiling from the edge of her mouth.
The Mountain in the Clouds, Part 48
Gumpelthwomp and Giggazzibar stood back to back, determined to hold on as long as they could for each other. I was in Gumpel’s hand, and while I was above the crowd of monsters, I felt no sense of safety. Any moment the beasts would be upon us. Their gnashing teeth made me shudder, and the real worry that they might chew upon my live body made me want to vomit.
The Fear Grid, Part 5
Purity couldn’t understand what was happening, nor could she release the feeling of terror consuming her mind and body. Her hands were clammy, her heart beat like a racehorse, and her eyes were as wide as if someone had taped them open.
Still she could not manage to see what had frightened the clerk so much. She could not see whatever was above her. The thing she began to feel and perceive as there, lurking about, looking down at her. She knew something was there. She just wanted to know what it was!

The Mountain in the Clouds, Part 47
We were completely surrounded. The zombies had us pinned. And worst of all was a couple of the creatures that burst through the walls on the sides. They were giants, turned undead as well. And they moved on us in kind. It was hopeless. We had no way out. There were too many of them.
The Fear Grid, Part 4
But Purity was far more concerned by what the woman had run from. With extreme trepidation, she looked overhead where the clerk had fixed her gaze, trying to see what was there above her head…
Witch Town, Part 4
At last he arrives at Warlock Mansion, which sits on the top of a large hill. It’s set against a dark sky, with a lightning storm brewing all around.
Lightning flashes and thunder rolls in as Warren walks up to the door.
The Mountain in the Clouds, Part 46
And then beside me, as unreal as any of it, was the bird. It looked familiar, like that which I’d once met in the labyrinthine hedge maze so long ago. Like the Hermit’s cockatrice, only now it was not yellow but red, and had a lizard tail instead of tail feathers, and it wore two goat-like horns on its head.
The beast ran up beside me with its long taloned legs. It kept pace for some time, seeming to run from a shared enemy. Then it turned its big, beady eyes towards me, opened its beak and “caw-cawed!”
The Fear Grid, Part 3
“Whoa, psycho alert!” Grace yipped.
The memory of the bizarre scene of Bobby Finn hung heavy in the cafeteria air.
Other voices resonated the sentiment:
“What the hell was that all about?”
“Bobby Finn?”
“It’s because his mother’s like that, you know.”
