Start from the beginning.

What follows is a fictional account.

Witch Town, Part 6

(ANIMATED MOVIE)

EXT. WOODS OUTSIDE WITCH TOWN, LATE MORNING

Esda walks through the trees, skipping and playing.

She jumps over streams, slides down a leafy hill, and looks closely at a line of bugs with various bright colors and spots.

She sniffs a handful of mushrooms that make her sneeze, but grabs the whole bunch of them in her hand and places them in a pouch at her side.

Then she picks up a stick with a broom-like quality at one end and pretends to fly through the woods on it.

EXT. STOKESVILLE PARK, LATE MORNING

Margaret slows down in her running as she enters the Stokesville Park through the large gated entrance which opens between the long stone walls that surround the huge place.

The gate is adorned with Halloween decorations: orange and black streamers with bats, and LED jack-o-lantern lights.

She passes kids running and playing together, noticing that they have loving mothers and fathers laughing and watching them.

She watches a group of kids run past wearing costumes: a witch, a ghost, a skeleton, and a vampire.

INTERCUT BETWEEN ESDA IN WOODS AND MARGARET IN PARK

Esda finds a small hole tunneled under some briars.

Margaret slowly finds herself entering the park’s forest area along the path.

Esda crawls into the tunnel and finds it long, dark, and thorny.

Margaret’s eye catches sight of something in a thicket of trees.

Esda emerges from the tunnel into a strange new part of the woods. It is a large, hollowed-out chamber of briar plants that extends over and around her.

Margaret creeps up to the dark grove of trees that hang together like a canopy, facing away from the path.

Esda gapes in awe and slowly walks into the large briar chamber and looks around.

Margaret nears the canopied trees and finds it darker and darker.

Esda steps up some stairs made of roots that lead to a basin in the middle.

Margaret lets her eyes adjust as she spies something glimmering on the ground.

Esda looks into the basin to see a pool of water.

Margaret leans into the ground to find a puddle of water.

Esda gasps at the sight of Margaret looking at her through the water.

Margaret sees Esda staring at her from the puddle and jumps back in fear.

Esda puts her hand out to the water and touches it.

Margaret notices the puddle ripple from the contact.

Esda then reaches her hand into the water.

Margaret is amazed to see Esda’s hand coming out of the puddle.

Esda jerks her hand back, unsure.

Margaret crawls back towards the puddle to have a cautious second look.

Esda and Margaret stare at each other in awe for a moment. Esda smiles first, then Margaret finds herself smiling from the edge of her mouth.

EXT. STOKESVILLE PARK, LATE MORNING

TODD
Margaret!

Margaret jerks back from the puddle at the sound of her name. Her brother is calling from somewhere in the park.

MARGARET
They’re coming to find me.

EXT. WOODS OUTSIDE WITCH TOWN, LATE MORNING

ESDA
Who?

INTERCUT MARGARET IN PARK AND ESDA IN WOODS

MARGARET
My family.

ESDA
Who are you?

MARGARET
I’m Margaret. Who are you?

ESDA
Esda. But what are you? You’re not a witch.

MARGARET
Of course not. I’m just a girl.

ESDA
(in awe)
A girl?

MARGARET
Are you a witch?

ESDA
Well of course. Everyone here is. Unless they’re a troll or…

MARGARET
Trolls? Aren’t they scary?

ESDA
Not to me.

MARGARET
Look, I’ve got to go.

ESDA
Don’t leave yet.

MARGARET
I’ll come back, ok?

ESDA
Ok.

MARGARET
Bye, Esda.

ESDA
Bye, Margaret. See you soon!

EXT. STOKESVILLE PARK, LATE MORNING

Margaret gets up hurriedly from the puddle and runs around the other side of the grove of trees.

Just then Todd is coming down the path towards her.

TODD
There you are, Margaret. Why are you hiding from me? Mom’s worried sick.

MARGARET
Where is mom?

TODD
Well, she couldn’t keep up, you know. Her bad leg. Come on, I’ve got to take you home.

MARGARET
But Todd, wait, I’ve got to show you something…

Todd looks at her quizzically like he has a no real interest.

TODD
What is it?

Margaret almost tells him, but looks towards the trees and decides to keep the full story to herself.

MARGARET
Oh, well, it’s just those cool trees over there. They look like they have a roof.

Todd looks towards the trees with a raised eyebrow.

TODD
Uh, yea, real cool, sis. Come on, let’s get you home.

Todd leads Margaret back out of the park.

The sounds of kids running, laughing and playing mix with dog barks.

EXT. WOODS OUTSIDE WITCH TOWN, LATE MORNING

Esda sits back on the roots of the briar chamber. Her face is filled with wonder and anticipation.
