WCD#09:

I Am the Monster That You Have Created

I am the monster that you have created
I am the madman that you wanted to see
I am manipulative, the hater, the hated
I am all the worst things I can be

I am pulling the strings of your life
I am pushing the buttons of power
I am causing all of your strife
And I am there, doing it every hour

My life is meant to break you
My only goals to condemn
To judge, to sneer, to mock you
At my every little whim

I am punishment incarnate
I am the dealer of dark fate
I am the trauma and bad karma
I am the bringer of all hate

I live for one thing only
To see you fall apart
It makes me feel less lonely
When I rend open your heart

See, that’s it exactly
It’s just as it seems
You’ve got me pinned
You know me well

Just as it’s always been

I am the monster that you created
You chose to see me this way
You wished to see the worst of me
And I’ve shown you every day

The terrible things inside my heart
Are wounds that fester and burn
And spill upon the earth so dark
So twisted it makes stomachs churn

But these are your creations
These are what you choose to see
These things are not my inventions
They are not me, they are not me

I know what’s in my heart
I know my intentions
I know who I am
And I say, full attention

I am the one who says who I am
I am who I am claiming I am
I am the one who knows my worth
I am the one given my own rebirth

I am choosing ways to live
I am choosing the light
I am choosing to love, forgive
I am leaving the blight

I see the darkness where it lies
I move beyond into the sun
I see the malicious words that die
I choose now to be the one

Who knows the truth
Respects the divine
Who faces his fears
And chooses to shine

For it all boils down to this
Who are you to tell me who I am?
Who are you to choose my worth?
Who are you? Who are you?

You don’t know me
It seems you never did
For if you knew me you would not doubt
What I am about

But I need not prove myself
Not to you, or any other
I know who I am
And I know who you are, too

And I forgive your anger
I forgive your hate
I forgive the darkness you live in
I pray for your holy fate

I forgive your curses
I forgive your lies
I release your judgement
To the eternal skies

For there is more than you and I
These petty times we’ve lived through
The words, the fights, the drama
Let’s leave it all behind

I am not the monster you say I am
I am the monster that you have created
