Start from the beginning.

What follows is a fictional account.

Witch Town, Part 10

(ANIMATED MOVIE)

INT. WITCH TOWN GREAT HALL, MORNING

The Great Hall is bustling with monsters. The Old Hen Cacklers grumpily shift about where they sit or stand. They mix with local witches on the periphery, as well as a handful of skeletons and trolls and a single VAMPIRE watching from the back.

Head Witch Griselda comes in from a side door at the back of the room and slowly shuffles across the floor to a stage. She climbs the stairs with noted age in her step and comes to stand before a podium that looks a bit like an altar.

HEAD WITCH GRISELDA
(using her hands to indicate a hushing motion, palms down and pushing the air towards the floor)
Settle down, settle down.

The noise in the room is rambunctious. Few of the crowd even notice the Head Witch, though some begin to stop talking and look forward.

GRISELDA
Please. Quiet down.

The room largely continues to ignore her.

At last Griselda deftly draws a gnarly wooden wand from her side, fast as a gunslinger, and shoots green sparkling stars across the room over everyone’s heads. The spell is accompanied by a whizzing and whistling sound, ending in a booming pop and crackle.

RANDOM TROLL
(in a droll, ogling manner)
Ooh, fireworks!

Some of the crowd laugh to hear the comment, but all the room finally settles down and ceases talking.

GRISELDA
Ahem. Thank you.

She pauses a moment and takes a sip of a bubbling concoction in a beaker on the podium in front of her.

GRISELDA (cont’d)
I hope that our sisters from the Old Hen Cackler’s School of Witchcraft are finding a safe, comfortable home among us…

RANDOM OLD HEN CACKLER
No!

GRISELDA
(unphased)
We of Witch Town are working hard to ensure that you have all that you need. I know this is a trying time for you, and for all of us. The reports of this new threat to our world are troubling indeed.

The Head Witch pauses again, this time to rifle through some rolled up papers. Finding a particular one, she attempts to open it but it rolls back on itself. Appearing slightly frustrated, she takes her wand once more and bespells the scroll to lift from her hands into the air overhead, unrolling and revealing its contents to the room.

GRISELDA (cont’d)
This is a map of our world of monsters…

RANDOM OLD HEN CACKLER
Yes, yes, we can see that.

GRISELDA
My goodness, does your school teach such rude behavior? Do you not ask your students to remain quiet in class as the teacher instructs?

The Old Hen Cackler shuts her mouth and crosses her arms, looking around sheepishly at others who give her disapproving looks.

GRISELDA (cont’d)
Now, as you can see, here is Witch Town in the middle. And here is the Old Hen Cackler School of Witchcraft to the west of us, down Cobbled Cauldron Road. This is where the recent reports of the warriors of light have hit. But as new sources come in, there have been a series of the same attacks, here, here, and here.

The Head Witch guides a magical light to fly across the map in a descending arch from the Old Hen Cackler’s School. It stops at certain spots, marking the reported attacks at the Skeleton Mines, Vampire Vaults, and Werewolf Caverns.

GRISELDA (cont’d)
From the sound of it, the attacks began far south, here, at the Caverns, and slowly worked their way around the periphery of our world to the School of Witchcraft. Any guess as to where they will hit next, but the hunch of myself and my esteemed colleagues is that they will continue this pattern around. That means their likely next hit will be on the Warlock Mansion. We have sent word to the reclusive Enclave, but have not heard back yet.

Again the Head Witch pauses to sip from her potion.

GRISELDA (cont’d)
The other possibility, of course, is that they head straight towards Witch Town, which is why I have put all our best witches on guard posts and high alert. And we have prepared escape plans in the desperate need that we must flee. You will all be getting pamphlets on this course of action, to be in the know…

The vampire in the back suddenly moves in and draws attention to himself. Griselda acknowledges him.

VAMPIRE
Good day to all. My name is Vorim Hlahd. I have come from the Vaults to speak with you, as my brethren have gone into hiding where they may. We vampires, too, are very concerned about this threat. We do not like the light. It is too bright for our sensitive eyes. We wish to resolve this issue and return home.

GRISELDA
Thank you for sharing your story, Mr. Hlahd.

VORIM HLAHD
Please, call me Vorim. I do wonder, however, what leads you to your conclusions of the course these warriors take? We know nothing about them, where they come from, or what they want. What makes you so sure they are not headed straight here, even now?

GRISELDA
Our hunch is that they wish to carve out the borders of our world first before striking us in the heart. Witch Town is a thriving center to the monster realm, and if we are surrounded without help we will be easy prey.

VORIM HLAHD
Then, if the threat is so great to us all and already well on their way to achieving their goal, should we not all simply leave now, as my people have done? I come as a conscientious emissary on your behalf. We monsters left the human world before to dwell in this place. We can create another realm such as this, more hidden than before. I suggest it is time to move on, and with haste.

GRISELDA
That is a very good point, thank you, Vorim. We have discussed this very possibility and that is included in the escape pamphlet. But we would like to hope that we can see this through and preserve our home. Our major concern first, of course, is to hear back from the Enclave, or from out scouts on the roads before we take this drastic action. We will be sure to embrace the option if it is called for…

Just then the door to the Great Hall bursts open and a singular man is standing in the entrance. It is Warlock Warren.

WARLOCK WARREN
I have dire news!

GRISELDA
(shocked)
What is it, friend Warlock Warren?

WARREN
The Enclave has been attacked!

All in the room emit an audible gasp.

VORIM HLAHD
I believe the action to leave may just now be called for.
